Get inspired for the holiday season… (by Natascha Maksimovic)
Raising a four year old and setting up your own business doesn’t leave much time for other cool stuff to do… even pretend you have done… best advertised over as many social networks as possible.
But one thing I make time for is our garden… well, its not technically our garden because we rent our house but that doesn’t stop me form losing myself in it. Although it really isn’t a romantic or idyllic scene as I would like to paint here.
For a start, I am scared of spiders and am generally not a great fan of insects. I love bees though. But am allergic now. My great grandfather had a bee farm and when I was stung in my head and was left with a traumatic second head growing out of it, I knew it was time to seek help… Its also been educational spending a summer freeing my legs from tics which have half buried themselves under my skin… A long way away from my summer spent at Cannes Film Festival…
Its probably not the best idea for someone who has broken her coccyx twice to be repotting and heaving about large terracotta pots either… Much to the dismay of my boyfriend I do not wait, can not wait… The work is at hand and has to be done so I do it and then moan for a couple of days how my back is killing me… Even my much loved homeopathic remedies cant deal with that one so I resort to plenty of Ibuprofen and even more moaning. Now that I have mentioned moaning another person comes to mind… Trying to do gardening with a four year old is at best times a challenge! I am banished from saving my much loved broccoli plants from vanishing because Melody much rather make a caterpillar farm out of them or she decides to wash the path pebbles in our toilet.
I am however still a beginner when it comes to gardening… There are days I feel very enthusiastic and I have planted all my seedlings and feel very happy when I go to bed… But then there come those evenings… when I’m even too shattered to brush my teeth let alone water all those plants… Then I feel guilty…. Shit…. Another thing in my life to feel guilty about.
We are however very lucky to have two sisters living either side of us who are garden and allotment experts… This helps hugely cause my boyfriend hasn’t reached that stage yet to appreciate the garden further from barbecuing or napping. So whenever I need a tool (which is pretty much every weekend) or asking about the latest insects which have invaded my peas, there is a sense of community and gentle happiness… The napping boyfriend on the patio, Melody listening to audio books in her makeshift tent and my eyes wondering over them… Simple moments which remind us what we really need to be thankful for.

Melody’s 4th birthday party.
I wanted to create a colourful and happy atmosphere for Melody’s birthday party… Something enjoyable for children and adults alike!
I firstly asked Felicity from Pearl’s Props to choose a selection of beautiful bowls and cake stands from her unique collection. These would be filled with colourful sweets and fruits.
I also have to thank Paperchase for their lovely new collection of ‘strawberries’ gift designs… Here I found some beautiful paper lanterns, wooden pegs and cupcake cases.
I illustrated a ‘strawberry’ for all the paper designs such as the table decorations, ‘gift bags’ and thank you cards. Each of the children’s gift bag was labelled with their name, on a ‘strawberry’ card, in their favourite colour… And pegged with the beautiful Paperchase peg!
The table was covered with strips of colourful crepe paper.
Another big thank you of course goes to Melody’s grandmother who made the cake and scones which were devoured in minutes!
My first screenprint commission for Youth Hymns. They are a record label / live music session entrepreneurs!
The EP was designed by Youth Hymns themselves for their first album launch of FEARS.
I was asked to make a ‘dirty’ looking sleeve print of a limited edition of 100… A bit of a challenge for someone who is German and loves clean lines and strives for perfection ha!
It turned out to be a great task and best of all, the label and band were very happy with them.
Watch this space…

Happy Birthday ‘Prick’

I love this colouring in masterpiece by my dear friends in Paris, Tess & Gigi!
My Christmas 2012 range is printed and ready… and with that, a new website will be launching end of October.
This is a bespoke greeting card project ‘Swimmer’
I was commissioned to design a card for Jolyon, who with his siblings, organised a leisure club membership for his dad Ken’s 60th birthday.
Ken is a keen swimmer so I wanted to create the card around that. I have recently been obsessed with searching second hand book shops for old encyclopedia books… That’s how my card became something of a personalised page out of ‘a gentleman’s guide to physical fitness’!
Melody’s special christmas present this year is a doll’s house form her ‘oompa loompas’ (or grandparents!)… I created the wrapping ‘doll family portrait’. Not quite sure if a two year old will appreciate it (!) but will add to the anticipation. Let the fun begin! Frohe Weihnachten.
This is another bespoke wrapping paper which I made for my longtime friend Amy (…. well not that long of course!)… Inside are two candles which I wrapped in striking yellow textured crepe paper. I then made a banner of a bird tweeting ‘Happy Birthday Amy’.

I thought now I have put up the wedding invites for ‘Felicity & Dion’ I also have to publish what got me the job in the first place!
For Felicity’s birthday, I created a bespoke wrapping paper to wrap a Habitat flower candle (RIP Habitat store Guildford)… She loves and adores birds and is a regular bird watcher! So each side of the present has a full size letter, covering all four sides, spelling out FLIC… Each letter has a bird illustration interacting with the letter. Everything is printed onto textured, recycled sugar paper… It is then wax sealed at the top.
The present and the wrapping were a success! The wrapping even more so cause I then got the job to create the wedding invites!
